Despite the ceremony itself being glitchy and quite awkward, their fans (Sones) everywhere are exceedingly happy with the award for Video of the Year going to Girls Generation’s ‘I Got A Boy.’
Up against Miley Cyrus, “We Can’t Stop”; Justin Bieber (feat. Nicki Minaj), “Beauty and a Beat”; Lady Gaga, “Applause”; One Direction, “Best Song Ever”; PSY, “Gentleman”; Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (feat. Mary Lambert) “Same Love”; Demi Lovato, “Heart Attack”; Selena Gomez, “Come & Get It”; and Epic Rap Battles Of History, “Barack Obama vs Mitt Romney,” the girls did exceedingly well to win.
However, some fans of the other artists are not taking it so well, with comments such as, “Why did those chinky-chonks win?” and “They don’t even have any fans.” the racism, stupidity and frankly insulting lack of knowledge about the rest of the world seriously shocked a lot of people.
Just because the ceremony was held in America, does not mean that all nominees would be American. The majority of comments (I’m not saying all, and I’m not saying everyone in America is like this) came from American Justin Bieber and One Direction fans… I feel it should be pointed out that Justin Bieber is Canadian and One Direction are British, so had they all been on stage together there would have been more American members of SNSD up there than in any of the other groups.
It is unbelievable how selfish and unaware of the world some people are, but this has not taken away from Girls Generation’s win.. if anything it has just made Sones more proud of the girls for dealing with the responses of the ignorant with such dignity and kindness.
Rant aside, here is the winning video:
